There is no doubt that we are living in unusual times. You have probably heard that many times over the past few days. There has been a lot to process and think about and not a lot of time as the landscape of Covid-19 continues to change everyday.

One of the things that is going to look different for us is that we will not be able to meet together to worship on Sunday mornings for now. That is OK because our love for our community and our desire to obey the governing authorities trumps our desire to meet together. We know that the “church” is not just a building. We can worship God without going to a building because of what Jesus has made possible for us at Calvary. We will miss getting together with you to worship Jesus.

Until we are able to be back together I just want to offer some encouragement. It is my desire that I would use this time of being in my home lots to spend more time with God. There is no doubt that we will have some more down time during this government declared state of emergency. I truly think that it is God’s grace. I believe that he is trying to tell us something. For some of us it is that we are going to fast. We need to slow down. We need to refocus. We need to stop doing some of the things that consume our time and hearts affections and spend more with our Saviour. That is not a bad thing, it is God showing His grace to us.

It is my prayer for all of us that the time that is spent during this “social distancing” time would have eternal value. I would hate to have had spent all of this extra time on myself and my own pursuits. 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us that God’s Word is adequate to equip us for life. It has eternal value. And Jesus tells us in Matthew 4 that the Word of God is what is going to sustain and satisfy us. If we want to live life to the fullest, as God has intended, we need to be in His Word.

Another thing that I have been asking myself is, how can I love my neighbours during this time? This looks different for everyone and I would encourage you to ask that of yourself. This is an opportunity for Christians to shine bright! We have an eternal hope that we can stand on and offer to the world. I pray that we do that well.

It is important that we not only study God’s word but that we hear it proclaimed and taught. For that reason, if you are looking for a church service to take in online, I have put together a list of a couple different pastors that I would recommend listening to while we are not able to meet together. I hope they are a blessing to you.
